So, I was sitting in the Spanish Consulate just yesterday, waiting to renew the Spanish passports of my two sons, when my eye caught a catalogue with the most enticing photo on the cover: a plate of jamón serrano de bellota, paper thin Spanish chorizo, caña de lomo, olives, and a bowl of gazpacho. It was around 11am so I was already feeling a bit hungry! I picked up the catalogue and instantly recognized the name: La Tienda. Founded in 1996, La Tienda imports a wide variety of Spanish delicacies (from meats, cheeses, and breads to paella pans and ceramics) and ships them direct to anywhere in the USA for a flat rate shipping rate of $8.95. This is an incredible deal, in my opinion. Don Harris started the company and operates it along with members of his family. I highly recommend that you check out the website (www.latienda.com) and bring a little bit of Spain into your home. My personal favorites are the incredible Marcona almonds along with the manchego cheeses. If you like something you try, please let me know. Qué aproveche!

Dear Friends,

We want to wish you all the best for 2012! We have so much to look forward to in Spain in the months ahead and we hope you will consider joining us on one of our tours. Just sitting here, I am daydreaming about the Corral de Carbon in Capileira (a Michelin-rated restaurant)on a warm summer night with plates of Spanish cheese, red wine, olives and roasted leg of lamb with Moorish spices. Every day a bright splash of joy, laughter, and heightened feelings – that’s what I think of when I think of Andalucia. Próspero Año Nuevo to all!!

Some exciting things are brewing here at Olé Spain! For years people have been requesting to go on our Spain tour of Andalucía in April / May or September / October. This is one tour that we, the owners, continue to guide and we have been very reluctant to let anyone else lead the tour. But as teachers, we have been limited by the school year schedule (thus the June dates for the Andalucía trip). We are now exploring the possibility of using an extremely talented and experienced guide to lead the tour when we can’t. Hopefully we’ll have more news about this soon. Please let us know if you are interested!!
