Cultural Insight & History
Spain is an endlessly intriguing and complex land. The range of history,
culture, language and cuisine is vast enough that each of our Spain
tours is like a trip to a separate world. Yet in each location you'll
find evidence of a common spirit.
We firmly believe that how you learn is as important as what
you learn. We provide a historical context for the sights we see,
but it's the local legends, anecdotes and lore that people find the
most intriguing. Funny, quirky stories are what make history come
alive and are the things that you remember long after the dates have
faded. Though our tours of Spain have an intellectual tone, we are
casual and we love to relay both the profound and the profane of Spain's
glorious past.
You will learn more in half a day with us about Spanish/Moorish/Jewish/ Christian history than you would otherwise learn from reading several guidebooks. We'll take you back in time through the centuries and paint an accurate picture of what Spain looked like. We share hundreds of stories on our tours: how Columbus funded his trip, why the streets of Córdoba were paved and lighted some 700 years before Paris and London, how the birth of art nouveau shaped the psychology and look of Barcelona and why Extremadura produced so many famous conquistadores. Whether exploring the Age of Discovery or the roots of flamenco music, we take great pride in our intimate knowledge of Spain and the Spanish people.
